THE RAPSKE VEDUTE FESTIVAL

The Rapske Vedute (Sights of Rab) klapa festival is one of the most important events on the island of Rab. The festival was founded in 2007 by the late maestro Ljubo Stipišić Delmata, who was also its first artistic director. He was succeeded by maestro Mojimir Čačija in 2013.

Every year, a dozen a cappella vocal ensembles (called klape) from Dalmatia and Kvarner, including those from Rab, participate in the festival. Their interpretations of famous klapa songs, as well as those that are not heard too often, captivate the audience. Nurturing the tradition of a cappella singing, the klape represent a segment of our musical heritage and the Chakavian dialect in the best possible way. Over the years, the festival has become traditional and has started to take on characteristic forms, not only in the sense of wide recognition but also in terms of demand.

Since 2013, the klapa festival has been recorded and broadcast on Croatian Radio 1 in the Folk Concert until Midnight series, and on Radio Zadar in the Call for an Encore programme.
