Geopark
The Geopark Island of Rab project was conceived with the intention of familiarising the island’s population and their visitors with the special values of geological heritage (inanimate natural heritage) as well as of evaluating the already recognised sites at the international level and encouraging the development of geotourism as a separate branch of tourism in Croatia. The project was started in 2005 and is still in the execution phase. At numerous geological points, there are many fossils, while unusually shaped rocks and extraordinary geological cross-sections attract wide attention.
The Geopark project is an incentive for us to get to know our immediate geological heritage and its diversity, to understand its value and the importance of its conservation, to use it as an alternative potential in the sustainable development of the local community and to preserve the Earth's heritage for future generations.
